The Advancing Equity Through Oral Health Fund

Through our grantmaking, we work with partners to catalyze oral health transformation. Together, we are guided by one vision: an oral health system that is just, equitable, and accessible to all.Proposals should be led by, or strongly informed through trusted relationships with, communities that have historically been affected by oral health inequities.

Research Grants on Reducing Inequality

Research grants on reducing inequality fund research studies that examine programs, policies, or practices to reduce inequality in the academic, social, behavioral, or economic outcomes of young people ages 5–25 in the United States, along dimensions of race, ethnicity, economic standing, sexual or gender minority status (e.g., LGBTQ+ youth), language minority status, or immigrant origins.

Funding Priorities in Social Service

The Hearst Foundations fund direct-service organizations that tackle the roots of chronic poverty by applying effective solutions to the most challenging social and economic problems. The Foundations prioritize supporting programs that have proven successful in facilitating economic independence and in strengthening families. Preference is also given to programs with the potential to scale productive practices in order to reach more people in need.

Opioid and Stimulant Use Disorder Prevention and Education

Offers 12-month contracts of up to $200,000 for California organizations to implement inclusive programs addressing opioid, stimulant, and polysubstance use. Funded activities should support awareness, prevention, outreach, education, stigma reduction, and stronger referral pathways to treatment and medications for opioid use disorder. Direct treatment and recovery support services are not funded.

Angel Philanthropy

We fund early-stage non-profits with the potential for positive, scalable impact that have not yet demonstrated the efficacy needed for growth funding or a sustainable model. Each year, we make first time grants, ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. When we find an organization that is making significant advances, we work with them to grow their programs, and get them ready for more significant funders who can support them through the growth phase.
